Belonging to any community is about support: that which we give and that we receive. The care we give to one another is complicated as we all have limited bandwidth and even conflicting factors to consider in our care practices. For instance, prioritizing self-care can come with a great deal of guilt but it is vital to each of us. The complexities of community, collaboration and care are at the core of this game.

Play as a coven in the build up to your monthly moon ritual. Each coven member has different needs and limited resources to use and share. Then there is the constellation (literally) of things that everyday life throws at us which can affect our circumstances. Working together, you will strive to balance your respective needs and capacities for care.

Designed to be non-judgemental about the care-based choices we make, Wax & Wane also literalizes the emotional and affective labour we perform for one another in communities and invites players to celebrate that!

Wax & Wane is a self-published board game that will be available via GameCrafter once we are assured that safe production practices are in place in light of the 2020 global pandemic. We care about that and you!
